Cinema is considered to be a great tool for economic growth, and a tangible example is the 'Big Blue', which made Amorgos known worldwide. On the occasion of the 30 years since the creation of the film, YPERIA 2017, was dedicated to the French producer Luc Besson. The Greek producer of the film Nikos Giannopoulos was with us and shared his feeling and memories of the shooting of the ‘Big Blue’ in Amorgos 30 years ago.
At the 15th YPERIA Convention and the 8th Amorgos Film Festival attended the President of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Mr. Charalambos Karimalis, and the General Secretary, Mr. Constantine Tsegas.
Present were 13 directors / producers who participated with their films, as well as, numerous journalists, bloggers, photographers, filmmakers from various countries.
The jury of the Festival, consisting of 5 members from Croatia, Austria, Poland and Greece, voted for the best films of the festival in 4 different categories. In total, 65 films from 25 countries competed, including Greek Films, Documentaries, Travel/Promotional and Commercials.

2nd Award: BlueGR Hotels & Resorts by Theodoros Papadoulakis.

2nd Award: Dancing with your dreams by Gustavo Neves.
Special Mention: Train Surfers by Adrien Cothier.
- Travel/ Promotional: 1st Award: An Alpine Sense of Life by Johannes Grebert.
2nd Award: Inlandisis b Mathieu Lelay.
Special mention: Galapagos, Calling Home by Andrew Norton.
- Commercials: 1st Award: Spirit of Dubai by Mark Toia.
Great emphasis was placed on alternative forms of tourism, particularly in the protection of the environment, hiking and herbal tourism, wellness tourism, cultural tourism and religious tourism. Special mention was made to the Gastronomy of Amorgos, as the guests had the opportunity to taste many authentic recipes of Amorgos with local products in various restaurants on the island: Lakki restaurant in Aegiali, Panorama tales tavern, Kapetan restaurant Municipality in Katapola, where they participated with their own recipes and the local restaurants Victor, Mythos and Mouragio. Amorgian cuisine courses with recipes for cheesepies, stuffed goat, giaprakia, fava and xerotigana were conducted in collaboration with the newly established 'Gastronomy Club of Amorgos'. The guests participated in experiential activities and had the opportunity to meet the whole island of Amorgos.
The event was organized by Women's Cultural Association of Tholaria and the Aegialis Hotel & Spa, under the auspices of EOT, the South Aegean Region, the Ministry of the Aegean and Island Policy, the European Union and the Municipality of Amorgos.

The entrance was free to all screenings and speeches and easy access was guaranteed to participants with reduced mobility.
